Health and Wellness Ministry

Mission Statement: The mission of LHBC’s Health and Wellness Ministry is to equip all to attain empowerment through individual achievement of optimal whole health (spiritual, physical, mental, environmental, etc.).
Vision Statement: We are devoted to the empowerment and encouragement of optimal health guided by Biblical principles. We provide outreach through monthly blood pressure clinics where monitoring and education is provided. We also monitor health and safety guidelines & resources that affect our congregation and community, and provide guidance and disseminate information as appropriate therein.
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
3 John 1:2 (NKJV)
At this time our church building is still closed to all in person meetings and services.  LHBC/EV will continue to stream our Sunday morning services online. While we all have the desire to worship in person with our church family, we also want to be cautious and not rush into decisions that could pose a danger to our church family. We do want you to know about several community resources that will assist you during this trying time. As always, if you are in need of prayer or assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
Free COVID Testing – These resource is available to you regardless of insurance or immigration status, doctor’s note or symptoms.

Hello Saints! We want to share that we have just completed our first 8-week Virtual Blood Pressure Monitoring course in collaboration of LHBC and CAAH. We learned: how to read nutritional labels, 10easy ways to reduce salt, reducing blood pressure naturally with food, exercise & stress reduction, and even how to eat health when eating out, among many other important topics!
This course was impactful for your fellow congregation members, and here are a couple of quotes from participants:
  • “This course produced an advocacy in my ‘owning’ my own proper and good quality health and wanting to share that with my community.”
  • “I enjoyed the interaction with everyone on video, and have several new recipes I want to try!”
  • “This class encouraged me to learn more about myself and staying healthy without medication!”
  • “This class allowed me to meet new people, learn more about health challenges, and encourage each other!”
We will be offering more classes for you to virtually participate in the future, so keep an eye out!
Community Courses Collaboration with Center for African American Health (CAAH)
CAAH has several online virtual courses that any LHBC member may participate in free of charge as a part of our collaboration through community engagement. During these isolating times, any member may interact with other community members from home and join the online community! Just mention you are a member at CAAH, and let the Health and Wellness Ministry know you are enrolled in a CAAH course! Some currently offered courses.
Journey to Wellness Free-Year long program
Fall Blood Pressure program “Check, Change, Control”!
  • The Center for African American Health is partnering with the American Heart Association to present Check. Change. Control., an evidence-based hypertension management program that utilizes blood pressure self-monitoring to empower participants to take ownership of their cardiovascular health.
  • The cost is FREE to participants who commit to seven classes plus a graduation, an hour each, spanning across four months.
  • The goal is to have each participant record their blood pressure numbers at least twice per month (a free blood pressure monitor will be provided to each participant).
